Vaia 2018 – Matteo De Mayda<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Borgo Valbelluna, 9 settembre 2025 \u2013 Le cicatrici della tempesta Vaia, a quasi sette anni di distanza, sono ancora visibili e la mostra fotografica \u201cThere\u2019s no calm after the storm\u201d del fotografo Matteo de Mayda le porta alla luce con crudo realismo e una profonda indagine scientifica. L’esposizione, che ha gi\u00e0 fatto il giro del mondo, sar\u00e0 inaugurata venerd\u00ec 12 settembre alle 18:00 a Palazzo delle Contesse di Mel e rimarr\u00e0 aperta fino al 12 ottobre.<\/p>\n

La tempesta Vaia, un evento meteorologico estremo che nell’ottobre del 2018 interess\u00f2 il Nord-Est d’Italia con venti che sfiorarono i 200 chilometri orari, abbatt\u00e9 circa 14 milioni di alberi e caus\u00f2 danni ingenti a intere comunit\u00e0 montane di Trentino, Veneto e Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Oltre al devastante impatto immediato, stimato in tre miliardi di euro, la mostra si concentra sulle conseguenze a lungo termine. Le immagini di De Mayda mostrano pendici montane brulle e foreste sopravvissute invase dal bostrico dell’abete rosso, un parassita che prospera su alberi indeboliti. Questa fragilit\u00e0 accresce il rischio di frane e valanghe, una minaccia costante per le popolazioni locali.<\/p>\n

Il progetto, vincitore della borsa di studio ISPA (Italian Sustainability Photo Award) nel 2021, nasce dalla collaborazione tra il fotografo Matteo de Mayda, il giornalista Cosimo Bizzarri e i dipartimenti Tesaf e Dafne dell’Universit\u00e0 di Padova. Questo connubio unico tra approccio documentaristico e ricerca scientifica offre un’analisi approfondita delle conseguenze ambientali e antropologiche di Vaia. L’obiettivo \u00e8 quello di fornire una riflessione su cause, conseguenze e prospettive future, sensibilizzando il pubblico sull’emergenza climatica e sul delicato equilibrio tra azione umana e stabilit\u00e0 degli ecosistemi.<\/p>\n

Matteo de Mayda, la fotografia come atto politico<\/strong>
\nOriginario di Treviso, ma residente a Venezia, Matteo de Mayda ha fatto della sua ricerca visiva uno strumento per esplorare cause sociali e ambientali. Il suo lavoro ha ricevuto numerosi riconoscimenti internazionali, tra cui il British Journal of Photography International Award nel 2022, e le sue immagini sono state pubblicate su testate di rilievo come The New York Times, Internazionale e Vogue. La sua produzione artistica include anche il libro \u201cEra Mare\u201d sul fenomeno dell’acqua alta a Venezia. La mostra \u201cThere\u2019s no calm after the storm\u201d \u00e8 diventata anch’essa un libro, vincitore del premio Gabriele Basilico, che porter\u00e0 il progetto nelle scuole delle comunit\u00e0 colpite da eventi climatici estremi.<\/p>\n

La mostra a Borgo Valbelluna: un messaggio per la comunit\u00e0<\/strong>
\nL’esposizione, organizzata con il supporto dell’Associazione ArtDolomites e Oltre le Vette, ha un valore particolare per la comunit\u00e0 di Borgo Valbelluna, come sottolinea il comitato organizzativo: “Abbiamo fortemente voluto questa mostra, perch\u00e9 ci spinge, attraverso la fotografia, a riflettere su temi come il cambiamento climatico e la fragilit\u00e0 dell\u2019ecosistema in cui viviamo. Il progetto, affiancato dalla parte scientifica, offre l\u2019occasione ai visitatori di esplorare le conseguenze della tempesta Vaia a otto anni di distanza dall\u2019accaduto”.<\/p>\n
